When asked for comments on that South Korean government strongly protested the Japanese government's opening of expanded space at the so-called "National Museum of Territory and Sovereignty" in Tokyo with the aim to strengthen claims over the islets known as Dokdo in South Korea, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that we urge Japan to deeply reflect on its history of aggression, stay on the path of peaceful development, and win the trust of its Asian neighbors and the wider international community with concrete actions, Mao said.
We have taken note of relevant reports on the above-mentioned issue, Mao said. Many of Japan's recent egregious moves and remarks have aroused vigilance, dissatisfaction and protest from neighboring countries, Mao noted.
In a press statement released on November 14, the foreign ministry of South Korea said South Korean government "strongly regrets" Japan's decision to add new exhibition space, noting that Seoul has repeatedly demanded the hall's closure since it first opened in 2018.
