China expresses appreciation and gratitude to South Korean Coast Guard for rescue of Chinese fishermen, says FM spokesperson

In response to a media inquiry over recent incidents in which two Chinese fishing boats capsized in waters near South Korea on November 9 and 10, causing casualties, and South Korean Coast Guard went to the scene to carry out rescue operations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday after two Chinese fishing boats capsized, the Chinese Embassy in South Korea and the Chinese Consulate General in Gwangju immediately coordinated and communicated with South Korean authorities, including the departments of foreign affairs and the coast guard. 

The South Korean side promptly dispatched patrol vessels, helicopters to the scene to conduct search-and-rescue operations. The Chinese side expresses its appreciation and heartfelt gratitude for this, said Mao.

A total of eight individuals have been rescued, two have been confirmed dead and 12 remain missing, the Chinese Consulate General in Gwangju said on its official WeChat account on November 11.
