When asked to comment on reports that US Ambassador to Japan George Glass had posted on X, claiming he "appreciates" Chinese diplomats in Japan in strengthening US-Japan ties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded that this US ambassador's related remarks were nothing more than a political performance with ulterior motives, unbecoming of a diplomat's identity and responsibilities.

The US-Japan alliance is a product of the Cold War. It should not target any third party, nor should it interfere in other countries' internal affairs, undermine other countries' core interests, said Mao.
