Responding to media inquiries about comments from some Taiwan-based military analysts who claimed that the mainland's Type 076 amphibious assault ship Sichuan poses a greater "threat" than Shandong and Liaoning aircraft carriers, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Wednesday that as the Chinese People's Liberation Army continues to grow stronger, it will be even more capable of safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity and upholding the interests of the Chinese nation.

"We extend congratulations to the Navy's Sichuan for successfully completing its maiden sea trial in relevant waters," Zhu said, adding that the Sichuan is a new-generation amphibious assault ship equipped with advanced electromagnetic catapult and arresting gear technologies, capable of operating fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and various amphibious platforms.
