When asked to comment on that China's permanent representative to the UN, Fu Cong, said Japan is unqualified to seek a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday that according to the UN Charter, the Security Council bears the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. Japan launched war of aggression in World War II, inflicting immense suffering on the people of Asia and the world. To this day, Japan has yet to thoroughly reflect on its war crimes, with some still promoting a misguided view of World War II history, visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, and distorting, denying, or even glorifying its history of aggression, Mao said.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recently made erroneous remarks concerning Taiwan, grossly interfered in China's internal affairs, trampled on international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and challenged the post-war international order. Mao said such a country is incapable of upholding international peace and security and is unqualified to become a permanent member of the Security Council.
"It is well known that there is only one China in the world, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all of China. Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory," Fu Cong said at the UN General Assembly's annual debate on Security Council reform.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent erroneous remarks concerning the Taiwan Straits are "an affront to international justice, the post-war international order, and the basic norms of international relations, and represent a blatant departure from Japan's commitment to peaceful development," Fu said.
