A giant panda-themed tourist train pulled out of Anjing Station in Southwest China's Sichuan Province - a homeland of giant panda - on Monday, embarking on its maiden voyage along a new grand loop through Southwest China - with international retirees making up nearly half its inaugural passengers, CCTV News reported Tuesday.
At 4:35 pm on Monday, the "Panda Express · Chengdu" set off on a carefully curated 8-day expedition. Its route traverses Guangyuan of Sichuan, Kaili of Guizhou Province, and Chongqing, unlocking deep access to premier attractions including the archaeological wonders of Sanxingdui, the majestic Jianmen Pass, the vibrant tapestry of the Xijiang Miao Village, and the stunning Hongyadong - masterfully intertwining historical exploration, authentic folk experiences, and breathtaking natural beauty, according to the CCTV News.
Aboard were travelers from Singapore, Thailand and other countries, with 40 percent aged 70-79, Zhang Hao, the tour guide of the 'Panda Express,' was quoted by the CCTV News. This demographic, combined with other international guests, brought the total overseas passenger ratio to 94 percent, Zhang noted.
"This route's passenger profile reveals two distinct trends: internationalization and the 'silver-haired wave,'" said Zhang, according to the news report.
CCTV News disclosed that China Railway Chengdu Group plans to operate three additional departures on the Grand Southwest China Loop route through this month alone, responding to booming demand for specialized rail tourism that combines comfort with deep cultural immersion.
