An online video shows an Indian tourist allegedly caught stealing at a clothing shop at a night market in Yiwu, East China’s Zhejiang Province. The Indian tourist, together with several other fellow Indian tourists, surrounded the female shop owner, the video shows.

Meanwhile, the police in Yiwu on Sunday clarifiedthat the incident resulted from a misunderstanding, as the foreign tourist had underpaid by mistake. The matter was resolved on the spot, Shangyou News reported.

A recently widely circulated video  reportedly shows “an Indian tourist at Binwang Night Market in Yiwu, Zhejiang confronting the shop owner after being accused of taking clothes.”

In the video, the female shop owner, holding clothes, repeatedly accuses the foreign customer of “stealing clothes,” saying that she intends to hand the matter over to the police, Shangyou News reported.

On Sunday morning, police from the Choucheng police station of Yiwu told Shangyou News that the incident has been officially filed, and officers have been assigned to follow up and handle the case. The police also revealed that most stalls at the market are covered with canopies, and it still needs to be further verified whether the public area surveillance cameras recorded the entire incident.

Around Sunday noon, a screenshot of a message allegedly sent by the Yiwu public security authority circulated online, showing the incident was actually caused by a foreign tourist forgetting to pay for one of the purchased items. After communication, the matter was resolved after the tourist completed the payment on the spot, according to Shangyou News.
