Test train collides with workers at railway station in SW China’s Kunming, killing 11

A test train conducting seismic detection collided with construction workers who had entered the track at a curved section of Luoyang Town Railway Station in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan Province, in the early hours of Thursday, leaving 11 dead and 2 injured, China Central Television (CCTV) reported.
Immediately after the accident, railway authorities activated an emergency response plan and collaborated with local government to carry out rescue operations and medical treatment for the victims.
Currently, the station has resumed normal transportation operations. Treatment for the injured and relevant aftermath work are proceeding in an orderly manner, while an investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway, according to the CCTV report.
The railway department expressed deep sorrow for the deceased and sincere condolences to the families of both the victims and the injured.
Next, the railway authorities will hold relevant responsible persons accountable in accordance with laws and regulations, draw profound lessons from the accident, and make every effort to ensure the safety and stability of railway transportation, per the report.
