Local police in Yugan county, Shangrao city in East China's Jiangxi Province on Monday released a notice on a suspected bird poisoning, saying three suspects had been placed under criminal detention, and the case remains under further investigation.

The Yugan County Public Security Bureau on Monday issued a notice stating that on Saturday, December 6, 2025, volunteers reported a suspected case involving the poisoning of wild animals in a wetland within the Poyang Lake area in Yugan county. Upon receiving the report, the bureau immediately established a special task force and worked with the local forestry department and other relevant authorities to carry out an investigation. Personnel were also dispatched to locate and clear poisoning sites in the wetland.

Volunteers explained that the location where the poison was placed is a habitat for migratory birds, and that the suspects would collect the poisoned birds afterward, local media reported.

According to the police notice, three suspects have been placed under criminal detention by the public security authorities. The case remains under further investigation.

The public security authorities noted that protecting the Poyang Lake wetland ecosystem and its wildlife resources is a shared responsibility of society as a whole. They said authorities will maintain a zero-tolerance attitude and strictly crack down on illegal activities that damage ecological security in accordance with the law.
