In response to the UK’s announcement of sanctions against two Chinese companies over alleged cyberattacks against the UK and its allies, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the UK said in a statement on Tuesday night that the UK, acting in collusion with the US, had deliberately smeared China and imposed illegal unilateral sanctions on Chinese entities.

On Tuesday, the UK government announced sanctions against two Chinese companies, alleging that they carried out cyberattacks against the UK and its allies and that their actions were linked to the Chinese government.

“Such actions are extremely egregious in nature. China firmly opposes this move and has lodged solemn representations with the UK,” the spokesperson said.

China has consistently taken action against all forms of malicious cyber activity in accordance with the law. At the same time, it firmly opposes the politicization of cybersecurity issues and the practice of making groundless accusations against other countries, the spokesperson stressed.

China urges the UK to immediately correct its wrong approach, revoke the sanctions against the Chinese companies, and stop smearing and vilifying China. China will take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, said the spokesperson.
