Driven by his evil nature of seeking "Taiwan independence," Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te has pandered to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks and completely abandoned any stance as a Chinese national. His fawning behavior toward Japan is contemptible and utterly futile, said Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Wednesday.

He made the remarks when asked to comment on some netizens in Taiwan sarcastically saying that "Lai Ching-te ate Japanese food for nothing" after Takaichi claimed at a plenary session of the House of Councillors that Japan's fundamental position on Taiwan is as stated in the Japan-China Joint Statement and this position has not changed.

Chen said that the "Chinese Foreign Ministry has already stated our solemn position on this matter. I would like to stress once again that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair and brooks no external interference whatsoever."

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi openly made erroneous remarks on Taiwan, grossly interfering in China's internal affairs. In the face of questions and criticism from China and the international community, she merely brushed it off by saying "our position has not changed." We find this totally unacceptable. Japan should earnestly reflect on its actions and immediately retract its erroneous remarks, said Chen.
