Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
The Chinese government, adhering to the principle of being responsible for the safety and health of Chinese nationals, has promptly issued consular alerts to safeguard the security of Chinese nationals overseas, which is not only the bounden duty of Chinese diplomacy but also a fundamental reflection of its people-centered approach, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday in response to an inquiry regarding whether the Chinese Foreign Ministry's advisory urging Chinese nationals to avoid travel to Japan due to earthquake concerns was a countermeasure in response to the Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks regarding the Taiwan question.
"Regarding the question you raised, China's consular advisory has made its position clear," Guo said, adding that Japan has recently been hit by a series of earthquakes, resulting in multiple injuries, and Tsunamis have been observed in many parts of Japan, with over 100,000 people issued evacuation orders.
Relevant Japanese authorities have announced that stronger earthquakes may occur in the subsequent period, Guo added.
In response to another inquiry as to whether the Chinese Foreign Ministry had previously issued similar travel advisories citing earthquakes in other countries when it called on Chinese nationals to suspend travel to Japan on seismic grounds, Guo stated that "Regarding the question you raised, you may refer to the official website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry for relevant information."
