In response to the so-called annual report issued by the US Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), which slanders China extensively, including smearing the "One Country, Two Systems" principle in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and its state of democracy, freedom, and human rights, attacking the National Security Law in Hong Kong and law enforcement actions by the Hong Kong police, pleading for anti-China and destabilizing elements in Hong Kong, and clamoring for sanctions against Hong Kong, grossly interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs, spokespersons from both Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR expressed firm opposition and severe condemnation on Thursday.

There is no universally applicable standard for democracy in the world; only democracy that suits a country's actual conditions can be considered good democracy. Any unbiased observer can see that since Hong Kong's return, the "One Country, Two Systems" institutional framework has been continuously refined, achieving globally recognized successes, the spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong SAR said.

Hong Kong residents now enjoy unprecedented protection of their democratic rights, freedoms, and human rights. The National Security Law in Hong Kong fully respects and safeguards human rights, providing a solid foundation for the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. The recent successful election of the eighth Legislative Council saw fierce competition among candidates from diverse backgrounds, sectors, and industries, fully reflecting broad representativeness, political inclusiveness, balanced participation, and fair competition. This demonstrates a new landscape of high-quality democracy that aligns with Hong Kong's actual conditions, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson emphasized that Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law, where everyone is equal before the law.

The spokesperson pointed out that some US politicians, despite ignoring their own country's dismal record on democracy, freedom, human rights, and social turmoil, still presume to lecture Hong Kong as self-appointed "preachers." This is a shameful act. While these politicians pay lip service to the "rule of law," they blatantly interfere in Hong Kong's judicial processes, revealing their hypocritical "double standards" and exposing their malicious intent to undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, the spokesperson said.

We warn these politicians that Hong Kong has embarked on a broad path from stability to prosperity. Attempting to negate the successful practice of "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong through so-called reports is nothing but wishful thinking. Any scheme to smear or interfere in Hong Kong will meet with resolute and forceful countermeasures and is doomed to fail, the spokesperson said.

On the same day, the spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao SAR also issued a statement, noting that since Macao's return to the motherland, the practice of "One Country, Two Systems" with Macao characteristics has achieved tremendous success, ushering in the best period of development in its history. The sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security among Macao residents has significantly increased. Any scheme to defame or undermine Macao's prosperity and stability will never succeed.

The days when the US could arbitrarily interfere in the internal affairs of other countries are long gone, the spokesperson said, who also urged the US to recognize the facts, engage in self-reflection, and immediately cease all forms of interference in Macao affairs and China's internal affairs.
