The Chinese Embassy in Norway said on Thursday local time it opposes the latest accusation from the Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the UK in hyping up the so-called “Chinese cyberattacks” claims. The embassy urged Norway to abandon double standards, stop following others in hyping up unfounded accusations, and work with China in a responsible and constructive manner to jointly safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity in cyberspace.

The Norwegian foreign ministry said in a X post on Thursday that it “shares UK’s deep concern over malicious cyber activities by certain China-based Information-Security Companies. We call on all UN Members States to adhere to the UN framework of responsible state behavior in cyberspace.”

The UK has deliberately smeared China and imposed illegal unilateral sanctions on Chinese entities – an extremely egregious move to which China has lodged solemn representations, the Chinese embassy said.

China firmly opposes and, in accordance with the law, combats hacking activities, and resolutely rejects the spread of disinformation for political purposes. China is the biggest victim of cyberattacks and has repeatedly suffered attacks from the US, the UK, and other members of the Five Eyes alliance and NATO countries, with ample evidence to prove it, the Chinese embassy noted.

If Norway is truly concerned about cybersecurity, it should distinguish right from wrong and make independent judgments instead of dancing to other countries’ tunes and smearing China. Cybersecurity is a global challenge, the embassy added.

Previously, in response to the UK's announcement of sanctions against two Chinese companies over alleged cyberattacks against the UK and its allies, a spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that China firmly opposes and cracks down on hacking activities in accordance with the law, and at the same time, resolutely opposes the dissemination of false information for political purposes.

China expresses strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the UK's approach of politicizing cybersecurity issues and has already lodged solemn representations with the UK in both Beijing and London, the spokesperson said.
