Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday that the Taiwan question is China’s internal affair and that how it is resolved should be entirely decided by China itself, which is China’s sovereign right. Serbia, he said, firmly and unwaveringly supports the one-China principle.
Vucic made the remarks during a visit on Thursday to Nis, Serbia’s third-largest city, where he inspected a Chinese-invested auto parts manufacturing enterprise. He held discussions with company representatives and toured the production workshops, accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarovic, and Mayor of Nis Dragoslav Pavlovic, among others.
Vucic said Serbia–China economic and trade cooperation has achieved remarkable results that make the peoples of both countries proud. He noted that the Serbian section of the Hungary–Serbia railway has recently been fully opened to traffic and that an increasing number of Chinese enterprises are investing in and cooperating with Serbia. Chinese investment, he said, is vital to Serbia’s economic and social development and job creation, and Serbia will continue to provide comprehensive support for the operations of Chinese companies. Serbia cherishes its ironclad friendship with China and sincerely thanks the Chinese leadership and people for their firm support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ambassador Li said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, practical China–Serbia economic and trade cooperation has flourished, with both sides jointly implementing a large number of infrastructure and investment projects. These projects have made positive contributions to Serbia’s national development and delivered tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.
The Chinese government encourages more capable Chinese enterprises to invest in Serbia and promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. China and Serbia, he said, have demonstrated a model of state-to-state relations by mutually understanding and supporting each other on major issues involving their respective core interests, said the Ambassador.
