A spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said on Thursday that if "Taiwan independence" separatist forces dare to cross the red line, they will be met with firm response.
The remarks were made in response to that Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities on Thursday "thanked" the US for a new round of arms sales worth about $11.1 billion that has been approved by US government. Taiwan's regional authorities claimed the deal demonstrates their "determination for self-defense" and their resolve to work with "like-minded countries" and firmly safeguard so-called "freedom and democratic values."
Chen Binhua, the spokesperson, said that the Taiwan question is at core of China's core interests, and constitutes the first red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations. The US has brazenly announced a massive arms sales package to China's Taiwan region, grossly interfering in China's internal affairs, seriously violating the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués—especially the August 17 Communiqué of 1982—gravely undermining China's sovereignty and security interests, and sending a severely wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this.
Chen said that we demand that the US immediately stop "arming Taiwan," stop indulging and supporting "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, strictly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, honor the commitments made by US leaders, and handle the Taiwan question with the utmost prudence.
Chen continued to say that the DPP authorities stubbornly pursue "seeking independence by relying on the US" and "seeking independence through military means," repeatedly hyping up "defense determination." They are willing to turn Taiwan into a "powder keg" and an "ammunition depot," and to let the people of Taiwan serve as cannon fodder for "Taiwan independence," which will only bring grave disasters to Taiwan compatriots. This fully exposes their vicious nature as "saboteurs of peace," "manufacturers of crises," and "instigators of war."
All sectors in island of Taiwan should clearly recognize the DPP authorities' evil essence of bottomless "selling out Taiwan and provoking war." Chen said we solemnly warn the DPP authorities that the reunification of the motherland is unstoppable; if "Taiwan independence" separatist forces dare to cross the red line, they will be met with firm response, Chen noted.
