Taiwan is a province of China and there is no such thing as a "president." I want to point out that certain Japanese lawmakers' provocative visit to China's Taiwan region runs counter to the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan and Japan's own commitments, violates the one-China principle. China firmly opposes this and has lodged stern representations with the Japanese side, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said in response to a media inquiry about senior officials of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party visiting Taiwan region provocatively and meeting with Lai Ching-te.

Lin stressed that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. "We once again urge the Japanese side to seriously reflect, correct its mistakes, retract Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks, and refrain from interfering in China's internal affairs," he said. He also warned the Democratic Progressive Party authorities that "seeking 'independence' by currying favor with Japan is contemptible and is doomed to be a wrong path and a dead end."
