A recent medical incident involving the death of an infant after surgery at the Women and Children's Hospital of Ningbo University has drawn public attention. Attaching great importance to this incident, the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government have dispatched a working group to strengthen supervision over the follow-up handling of the case, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Tuesday.
The Ningbo Municipal Government has also sent a working group to the Women and Children's Hospital of Ningbo University to further conduct investigation and disposal work, implement problem rectification, and ensure the normal operation of medical services at the hospital, according to the CCTV report.
According to media reports, on November 14, infant girl "Little Luoxi" underwent heart surgery at the Women and Children's Hospital of Ningbo University and unfortunately passed away, sparking widespread public concern.
In response to Little Luoxi's family's questions regarding the surgical treatment process, relevant authorities in Ningbo have initiated the medical accident technical appraisal procedure, Tide News, a major news outlet of East China's Zhejiang Province under the Zhejiang Daily Press Group, reported on Tuesday.
Authoritative experts will be organized to determine any specific medical faults and the degree of responsibility, the Tide News report said, adding that relevant personnel will be strictly dealt with in accordance with laws and regulations based on the appraisal conclusions.
Regarding the medical damage liability dispute lawsuit filed by the family against the hospital, the Haishu District People's Court of Ningbo City has accepted the case in accordance with the law, per the report.
On December 20, Little Luoxi's mother released portions of the autopsy report on social media, which stated that no coronary sinus-type atrial septal defect was found. A comprehensive evaluation has concluded that the girl died of heart and respiratory failure due to complications following surgical repair of a secundum-type atrial septal defect, according to media reports.

Ningbo Health Commission released a statement announcing disciplinary action against senior hospital chiefs. Probe into the baby's death found inadequate risk assessment, surgical errors, and failures in intraoperative disclosure and postoperative care, while a medical accident appraisal is pending to determine liability.
