Local police in East China detains two people deliberately stepping on martyrs’ tomb during livestream

The public security bureau of Guangde, East China's Anhui Province, recently cracked a case in which individuals deliberately stepped on the martyrs' tomb during a livestream, and detained two people, according to a release of China's Ministry of Public Security News Media Center on Sunday.

Guangde police recently received reports from netizens that the content published a short-video account had insulted a martyrs' cemetery during a livestream. The police then conducted an investigation and identified the account holder as a local resident surnamed Zhang.

Further investigation revealed that not long ago, Zhang, together with another individual surnamed Wu and others, traveled to the martyrs' cemetery of Yan Chengzhi and other fallen heroes in Henggang village of Guangde, the release said.

In an attempt to attract attention and increase livestream traffic, Wu deliberately stepped on the martyrs' tomb during the live stream. Observing that the act drew viewers, Zhang not only did not stop Wu, but instead encouraged and instigated Wu to climb onto the tomb again and pose for the camera in an attempt attract larger online viewership.

According to the police release, Zhang and Wu have been placed under criminal compulsory measures by Guangde police for involvement in infringing upon the reputation and honor of martyrs. Zhang's short-video account has been banned in accordance with the law.
