When asked to comment on recent remarks made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who said that Russia opposes any form of "Taiwan independence" activities and, in the event of a possible escalation of the Taiwan situation, Russia will support China in safeguarding national unity and territorial integrity, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that China highly appreciates Russia's consistent and firm support for China's position on the Taiwan question. 

Lin said that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair, the one-China principle represents a broad consensus of the international community and a basic norm governing international relations, and that China's resolve to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering.
