When asked to comment on the first day of Myanmar's general election on Sunday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday that the Myanmar government held the first phase of voting in the general election. The Chinese observation team, along with representatives from relevant countries and international organizations, jointly observed the process on site. The voting proceeded in a generally stable and orderly manner, and the general election was successfully launched, he added.
"We hope that the subsequent second and third phases of voting will also proceed smoothly, contributing to cooling down the situation in Myanmar, returning the political landscape to the right track, achieving broader and more stable peace and reconciliation, and restoring national stability and development at an early date," the spokesperson noted.
