With the support of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, law enforcement authorities from China and the Philippines worked in close coordination and successfully apprehended Shi Chunfang, the suspect who is involved in multiple cases of kidnapping and murder of Chinese nationals, China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said on Monday via its official WeChat account.

The MPS recently dispatched a task force to the Philippines to conduct law enforcement cooperation. The Philippine police handed over Shi to the Chinese side on December 22, after which the MPS organized the public security authorities of East China's Fujian Province to escort Shi back to China, the report said.

In recent years, the criminal gang led by Shi has repeatedly committed serious crimes such as kidnapping and murder targeting Chinese nationals in the Philippines, involving multiple heinous cases that had extremely severe consequences and a profoundly negative social impact, the MPS said.

Therefore, law enforcement authorities of China and the Philippines have enhanced cooperation and made every effort to advance investigations into the relevant cases. After meticulous and thorough investigation, Shi was recently successfully apprehended, according to the report.

Public security authorities will further deepen international law enforcement cooperation, intensify efforts to combat cross-border crimes such as kidnapping, extortion, human trafficking, and online gambling and telecom fraud in accordance with the law, resolutely bring criminals to justice, and effectively safeguard the personal safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals overseas.

A key Red Notice fugitive surnamed Hao, suspected of duty-related crime, was successfully apprehended and repatriated through law enforcement cooperation between China and the Philippines under the framework of Interpol, Chinese Embassy in the Philippines stated on its official WeChat account on December 11.

Over 30 Chinese nationals involved in offshore gambling activities in the Philippines were repatriated from the country on December 12, 2024, making it the fourth batch of repatriations carried out through China-Philippines law enforcement cooperation since the Philippine government announced a comprehensive ban on the offshore gambling industry, according to the Embassy.
