Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday that China firmly supports the status of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, opposes any acts that violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter or infringe upon other countries' sovereignty and security, opposes the use or threat of force in international relations, and opposes external forces interfering in the internal affairs of Latin American countries under any pretext. He made the remarks in response to questions regarding that US leader has threatened to intervene in Colombia and Cuba following a US military operation against Venezuela, and how China would respond if the US challenges its interests in Latin America and the Caribbean.

China and Latin America are good friends and partners based on equality, mutual benefit and common development. Openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation are distinctive features of China Latin America cooperation, and Latin America and the Caribbean have the right to independently choose their development paths and partners, Lin said.

China is willing to continue working together with Latin American countries in unity and cooperation to meet changing international challenges, jointly pursue development and prosperity through mutually beneficial cooperation, and benefit the peoples of both sides, Lin added.

Washington is continuing to hint at more military action, not only against Venezuela but other "perceived enemies" in the region such as Cuba and Colombia, the Washington Post reported on Monday.
