On Tuesday morning, the Chinese Consulate General in Osaka issued an alert to the Chinese citizens after three earthquakes jolted Japan within 20 minutes the same day, according to the consulate general and the Xinhua News Agency.

Xinhua, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency, reported Tuesday that a magnitude 6.2 earthquake jolted the eastern area of Shimane Prefecture, at approximately 10:18 am local time. Subsequently, two aftershocks measuring magnitude 5.1 and 5.4 respectively struck the same location at around 10:28 am and 10:37 am. The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that there is no need to worry about tsunamis triggered by this earthquake event.

The Chinese consulate general released a notification via its official WeChat account, stating that according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Shimane Prefecture at approximately 10:18 am local time on Tuesday. Tremors of varying intensities were felt across multiple prefectures including Shimane, Tottori, Okayama, Hiroshima, Kagawa, Ehime, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo.

The consulate general reminds Chinese citizens within its consular district – particularly those in Shimane, Tottori and other affected areas – to raise their awareness of self-protection, closely monitor weather warnings and disaster prevention updates issued by Japanese authorities, remain vigilant against aftershocks, tsunamis and other secondary disasters, make proper preparations for emergency evacuation, and ensure personal safety.

In case of emergencies, Chinese citizens are advised to dial the emergency contact numbers in Japan promptly and contact the Consulate General for assistance, according to the notification.
