No country can act as the "world policeman," and no country can proclaim itself the "international judge," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday in response to a question on how Chinese government plans to cooperate with other UN members and international community to protect Venezuela's sovereignty and security and what measures Chinese side thinks can be taken to effectively prevent the US from acting as the "world policeman."

China firmly supports the Venezuelan government and people in safeguarding their sovereignty, security, and legitimate rights and interests, and firmly supports regional countries in upholding Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, said Mao, adding that China consistently maintains that all countries should respect the development paths independently chosen by the people of other nations and abide by international law and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter. Major countries, in particular, should take the lead in doing so.

As a Chinese envoy noted at the emergency meeting of the UNSC on Monday, military means are not a solution to problems, and the indiscriminate use of force would only lead to greater crises, Mao added.

"We stand ready to work with all countries to uphold the authority of international law, oppose the law of the jungle, reject interference in internal affairs, and jointly safeguard world peace and stability," Mao added.

China advocates a vision for common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, and attaches importance to the legitimate security concerns of all nations, Mao said.

"We uphold the resolution of differences and disputes between countries through dialogue and consultation in peaceful ways," Mao said, "This represents the Chinese solution to addressing global security challenges and achieving universal and common security," she added.
