Venezuela is a sovereign state with full and permanent sovereignty over its natural resources and economic activities. The relevant demands of the US violate international law, infringe on Venezuela's sovereignty, and undermine the rights of the Venezuelan people, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Wednesday, in response to a question regarding that US President Donald Trump claimed that the US will obtain 50 million barrels of previously sanctioned oil from Venezuela, which will be sold by the US on behalf of Venezuela. Some of the crude oil was originally likely to be sold directly to China.

The cooperation between China and Venezuela is conducted between two sovereign states and is protected by international law and relevant laws. China's legitimate rights and interests must be safeguarded, Mao stressed.
