At a regular press briefing of China's Foreign Ministry on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, responding to a question from a foreign media outlet about South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's upcoming visit to Japan, said that Lee's visit is a matter between South Korea and Japan and "I would not comment on it." "What I want to say is that exchanges between countries should be conducive to promoting regional peace and stability," Mao said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's presidential office Cheong Wa Dae released a press statement on Thursday saying that President Lee Jae-myung will visit Nara—hometown of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi—at Takaichi's invitation from January 13 to 14. The report said Lee is scheduled to arrive in Nara on the afternoon of January 13 and hold talks with Takaichi.
