German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul proposed to US President Donald Trump in Iceland prior his trip to the US the collaborative responses to potential "threat" posed by Russia and China in Arctic, under the NATO framework. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the Arctic bears on the overall interests of the international community. China's activities in the Arctic aim to advance the peace, stability and sustainable development of the region and are in line with international law.

Therefore, China does not agree with the US using China or Russia as an excuse to pursue its own selfish interests, Mao noted.
