Apple has expanded the scope of its long-running online trade-in promotion as of Friday, extending eligibility beyond its own products — including MacBook, iPhone and iPad — to cover major domestic smartphone brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo, according to Apple's official China website.
According to Apple's Trade In page, the Huawei Mate X5 is eligible for a trade-in value of up to 2,850 yuan ($395), while the Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ can be traded in for up to 2,750 yuan and the Huawei Pura 70 Pro for up to 1,800 yuan. The OPPO Find X8 Pro is valued at up to 1,700 yuan, the Xiaomi 15 Pro up to 1,600 yuan and the vivo iQOO 13 up to 1,600 yuan.
On Apple's published list, Huawei accounts for the largest share of eligible devices, including its foldables — the Huawei Mate X5 and Mate X3 — as well as the Mate 70, Mate 60 and Mate 50 series, the P60 series and the Pura 70 lineup. OPPO follows, with models such as the foldable OPPO Find N3, select variants from the OPPO Find X8 and Find X7 flagship lines, and the OPPO Reno 13 series.
For comparison, among Apple's own products, the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max in the Chinese market is eligible for a trade-in value of up to 5,800 yuan; the iPad Pro up to 5,800 yuan and the iPad Air up to 3,500 yuan; while the MacBook Pro can fetch up to 6,050 yuan and the Mac Pro up to 14,000 yuan.
Preliminary data from the latest Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker released by IDC showed that China's smartphone shipments totaled about 285 million units in 2025, down 0.6 percent year on year.
Huawei led China's smartphone market with shipments of 46.7 million units, down 1.9 percent year on year, for a 16.4 percent share. Apple ranked second with 46.2 million units, up 4 percent, taking a 16.2 percent share, while Vivo shipped 46.1 million units, down 6.6 percent, tying Apple for second place. Xiaomi followed in fourth with about 43.8 million units, up 4.3 percent, accounting for 15.4 percent of the market, while OPPO ranked fifth with 43.4 million units, up 2.1 percent, for a 15.2 percent share.
In the fourth quarter alone, Apple topped the market with shipments of 16 million units, capturing a 21.1 percent share and posting a 21.5 percent year-on-year surge. vivo, OPPO, Huawei, Xiaomi and Honor ranked second through fifth, with Xiaomi and Honor tied for fifth place.
