China has repeatedly elaborated its position on the Greenland issue on many occasions. International law, based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, is the foundation of the current international order and must be upheld. We urge the US side to stop using the so-called "China threat" as a pretext to pursue selfish interests, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said.

Guo made the remarks in response to a question that US President Trump claimed that the US will impose an additional 10 percent tariff on eight European countries until the relevant parties reach a deal on "purchase of Greenland."
