The Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan issued a notice on Monday, once again urging Chinese citizens to refrain from traveling to Afghanistan. The notice came as an explosion struck central Kabul, Afghanistan on Monday, killing at least seven people and injuring 13. Two Chinese nationals were severely injured and rushed to the hospital, Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday.
The embassy's notice said that the current security situation in Afghanistan remains complex and severe. In light of the explosion, the embassy reiterated its reminder that Chinese citizens should temporarily avoid traveling to Afghanistan.
Chinese nationals and enterprises already in the country are advised to abide by Afghan laws and regulations, respect local religious customs, closely monitor the security situation, and strengthen their safety awareness. They should enhance security measures at their residences and during travel, and minimize visits to crowded places such as restaurants, religious venues, large shopping malls, and markets.
Earlier, Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, confirmed to Xinhua that the blast at a restaurant in Kabul Monday afternoon had resulted in casualties.
However, Reuters reported that the explosion tore through a hotel in a heavily guarded part of central Kabul on Monday.
