When asked to comment on a so-called report released by the DPP authorities recently, which claims that in 2025 the mainland carried out "comprehensive" cyber intrusions against critical infrastructure on the Taiwan island, Peng Qing'en, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday that the DPP authorities are fabricating rumors and engaging in slander and smears against the mainland, even at the cost of escalating cross-Straits confrontation, in order to cover up their own governance failures, divert public dissatisfaction, and pursue political self-interest.

In fact, the DPP authorities have repeatedly directed military intelligence agencies and cyber forces to conduct cyberattacks and sabotage against the mainland, and to disseminate illegal and harmful information, Peng noted. According to statistics, in 2025, relevant authorities investigated and handled nearly 4,000 cyberattack incidents originating from the Taiwan direction, an increase of 25 percent compared with 2021. These activities have focused on attacks and espionage targeting key sectors on the mainland, including transportation, finance, technology, and energy. The so-called report released by the DPP authorities reveals their guilty conscience and attempt to distort facts.
