US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he would visit China in April and the Chinese leader would travel to the US toward the end of 2026, according to the Straits Times.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he is looking forward to meeting the Chinese leader and that they have always had a great relationship, Reuters said.
China has yet to confirm the visit of the US president to China.
In response to a question asking whether the Chinese side could confirm the relevant visit after media reported that Trump said on Thursday local time on Air Force One that he will visit China in April, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday that the steady development of China-US relations serves the common interests of the peoples of both countries and meets the shared expectations of the international community.
Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable leading role in China-US relations. "Regarding the specific questions you mentioned, I have no information to provide at the moment," Guo said.
