When asked about expectations on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's three-day visit to China and his meeting with Chinese leaders, Chinese FM spokesperson Guo Jiakun said against a backdrop of a turbulent and complex international situation, continuous communication and strengthened cooperation between China and the UK, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, serve the common interests of the peoples, and are conducive to promoting world peace, stability and development.
The UK Prime Minister will pay an official visit to China from January 28 to 31.
Guo noted that this visit marks the first time in eight years that a UK prime minister visits China. During the visit, Chinese leaders will hold talks and meetings with Starmer, during which they will have in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern. Starmer will also visit Shanghai.
China is willing to take this visit as an opportunity to enhance political mutual trust with the UK, deepen practical cooperation, jointly open a new chapter in the healthy and stable development of China-UK relations, and work together to make due efforts and contributions to world peace, security and stability, said Guo.
