When asked to comment on the EU's announcement of an investigation into Chinese wind power company Goldwind over allegations that the company has benefited from government subsidies and distorted competition in the EU market, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, on Wednesday referred the specific question to competent Chinese authorities and stressed that China is determined to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
Lin also stated that the EU has repeatedly resorted to unilateral trade tools and adopted discriminatory and restrictive measures against Chinese companies, sending a signal of protectionism, damaging the EU's own image, and undermining the confidence of Chinese enterprises in investing in the EU.
"We urge the EU to honor its commitments to market openness and the principle of fair competition, stop abusing unilateral trade instruments, and provide a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment for companies from all countries. China will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," said Lin.
