Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian

When asked to comment on reports by Myanmar's election commission that the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party achieved a sweeping victory in the country's general election, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday that as a friendly neighbor, China supports Myanmar in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and supports all parties in Myanmar in achieving broader, firmer and more lasting peace and reconciliation, so as to jointly safeguard political stability.

China respects the choice of the Myanmar people and will continue to provide constructive assistance to help Myanmar restore peace, stability and development, Lin said.
