Forging a new strategic partnership between China and Canada embodies the principles of equality, openness, inclusiveness, peaceful cooperation and shared prosperity, which is not directed at any third party, serves the common interests of both peoples, and contributes to global peace, stability, development and prosperity, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday in response to US President Donald Trump's remarks about cooperation between China and Canada.

BBC's Wednesday report noted that Trump claimed that a trade deal signed between Canada and China last month would "eat Canada alive," and he also claimed: "The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup."

Notably, some media such as the Guardian noted Canadians poked fun at US President's bizarre claim.
