Two gymnastics coaches at Zhejiang College of Sports have been placed under investigation after a teenage athlete's parents came forward with accusations of them involving physical abuse, financial extortion, and their daughter's subsequent fall from a building, according to Xinhua News Agency on Thursday.

The case has sparked widespread public concern recently after the parents of the teenager spoke out publicly about what their daughter had endured. The college responded to Xinhua on Wednesday, confirming that local police have formally opened an investigation into the two coaches, the college has suspended their duties.

A college official said the institution had dismissed the coaches involved based on already verified situations of corporal punishment and coaches soliciting money from parents. The college added that further disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with laws and regulations, based on the final outcome of the police probe, according to Xinhua.

Since the athlete's fall, the college said it has worked closely with her family to support her treatment and rehabilitation. Her condition is reportedly improving. Discussions are ongoing with her parents regarding continued medical care, academic arrangements, and her long-term personal development.
