A 49-year-old woman was placed under administrative detention for spreading AI-generated false information claiming a partial ground collapse in a metro construction site in Shanghai to attract followers, causing adverse social impact, according to a notice released by Minhang district branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau.
 
On February 13, 2026, a post circulated online claiming that a partial ground collapse had occurred in the construction area of the Jia-Min Line metro project near West Jinsha Jiang Road and Jinyun Road in Jiading district, Shanghai, and the post claimed that this was the second such collapse risk within less than four months. After verification by the public security authorities, the information was found to be a fake, said the notice.
 
Luo (female, 49) used AI to generate and publish the false information to attract followers and boost online traffic, causing an adverse social impact. Luo has been placed under administrative detention by the police in accordance with the law, per police notice.
 
According to Wechat account of Shanghai Metro, on February 11, a localized leakage occurred on the Shanghai Jia-Min Line. At about 10:30 that day, in the section between Qixin Road Station and Xinjian Road Station, a localized leakage occurred. The on-site command immediately activated its emergency plan and handled the leakage point. There were no casualties. 
 
On the afternoon of the February 12, related department of Shanghai Shentong Metro Co told media that a collapse had indeed occurred at the site and the collapsed area was the same area that leakage occurred the day before. It has been sealed off and no one was injured. The specific cause is under investigation, according to Xinhua Daily.
 
 In the notice, the police warned that cyberspace is not beyond the law. Law enforcement will crack down on people who fabricate or spread false information to gain attention or disrupt public order. The notice urged the public not to share unverified information and to help maintain a healthy and orderly online environment.
