Responding to a question regarding military strikes against Iran by the US and Israel, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday that China is deeply saddened by the large number of civilian casualties caused by the conflict.

Protecting civilians in armed conflicts is a red line that must not be crossed. Indiscriminate use of force is unacceptable. China calls on relevant parties to fulfill their international obligations, earnestly protect the safety of civilians, and refrain from attacking civilian facilities, the spokesperson added.
