A pet restroom inside the terminal of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in South China's Guangdong Province has drawn attention online recently after several netizens shared posts showing the restroom, which is marked with a sign of a person walking a dog, Yangtse Evening News reported on Tuesday.

According to posts shared online, the pet restroom is equipped with facilities such as a wash basin, cat litter, pee pads, and artificial grass, allowing pets to relieve themselves and be cleaned before boarding flights.

"This is really great. Many places claim to be pet-friendly, but they only allow pets to enter without preparing the facilities that pets actually need during travel," one netizen commented.

Others said the presence of such facilities suggests pets may become more common travel companions in the future. "Regardless of how the trend of traveling with pets develops, this kind of thoughtful design deserves praise," another passenger wrote.

Some attentive netizens also noticed that the airport not only has a pet restroom but also provides a dedicated pet waiting lounge.

According to the report, Guangzhou Baiyun airport introduced the pet restroom in its terminal as early as 2023 to facilitate passengers traveling with pets, and the facility has since been upgraded.

Although the space is relatively small, it is fully equipped. The floor is covered with green turf, and the room includes a cat litter box as well as a designated toilet area for dogs. A shower spray is also available for owners to clean their pets. After each use, cleaning staff sanitize the area immediately.

The report said Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport was the first airport in China to introduce such a facility.

Airport staff added that the pet restroom is a new attempt to provide more people- and pet-friendly services and meet the diverse needs of travelers. The airport reminded passengers traveling with pets to follow relevant regulations, including placing their pets properly in airline-approved carriers during the journey to avoid disturbing other passengers.
