We appreciate Pakistan's efforts in promoting de-escalation, support Pakistan in continuing to play its role as a mediator, and are willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Pakistan and other relevant parties to jointly promote peace and cease war, and safeguard regional peace and stability, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a press briefing on Monday.

Mao's remarks were made in response to media inquiry over Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar's recent remarks that Islamabad was ready to facilitate peace talks between the US and Iran in the coming days, as well as China's position on the possibility of the parties involved in the Middle East conflict holding talks.

According to a Bloomberg report, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who is also the deputy prime minister, said in a televised briefing on Sunday that Pakistan is very happy that both Iran and the US have expressed their confidence in Pakistan to facilitate their talks, and Pakistan will be honored to host and facilitate meaningful talks between the two sides in coming days for a comprehensive settlement of the ongoing conflict.

China supports all efforts conducive to de-escalating the situation and restoring dialogue, and calls on all parties to start the peace talks process as soon as possible, Mao said.
