The so-called "select committee" has gone to a nearly hysterical extent in its efforts to suppress and contain China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Friday in response to a media inquiry on China's comment on that according to reports, US House select committee on strategic competition with China recently set up a so-called "whistleblower" email tip line on its website, urging US scholars, researchers, and university faculty to report research cooperation involving entities linked to China's defense and industrial base.

Mao said that in recent years, the US has overstretched the concept of national security, deliberately undermined normal China-US scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and aggressively persecuted Chinese students and scholars. Such actions will only weaken US' innovation vitality and end up backfiring on itself.
