China’s energy resources remain sufficient, stable and orderly even as geopolitical conflicts have driven a surge in global energy prices, thanks to forward-looking development of the country’s new energy sector and a diversified energy supply system, an official of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Thursday.
Mao Shengyong, deputy head of the NBS, said at a press briefing that amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, global energy prices have surged, with oil prices in some countries soaring and supply shortages severely affecting production and daily life.
“However, China’s energy supply has remained adequate, stable and orderly, and with timely temporary price controls in place, there has been no noticeable impact on household living or business operations,” Mao said.
“This reflects China’s long-term, forward-looking efforts to develop new energy industries and build a diversified energy supply system, which have significantly strengthened the economy’s autonomy and stability,” the official added.
