A supermarket in Xuancheng, East China's Anhui Province has launched a promotional activity titled "Lose 3
jin of fat for 1
jin of beef" to encourage weight management among residents, attracting a large number of participants, local media outlet Dawan News reported on Wednesday.

The video also shows consumers being weighed at the location. After registration, people receive a small card from the supermarket explaining the activity. It states that the campaign aims to promote healthy weight loss through scientific exercise and a balanced diet, with health and safety as the top priority. Unhealthy methods such as forced vomiting or extreme dieting are strictly prohibited. Participants are expected to join on a voluntarily basis in consideration on their physical condition, and arrange their weight loss intensity properly, according to Dawan News.
Registration is set to run from April 18 to April 27, and the weighing and redemption period opens from April 28 to May 17. Data released on Wednesday morning shows more than 600 people have signed up for the activity, according to the report.
Surprisingly, the campaign has also boosted sales of organic vegetables and yogurt at the supermarket. "They [customers] probably buy them to make salads," said a supermarket representative, adding that recently, sales of light food vegetables have risen by about five percent, and yogurt sales have increased by roughly 7.6 percent.
