China decided to lift countermeasures against two EU financial institutions - UAB Urbo Bankas and AB Mano Bankas - effective Friday, after the EU removed sanctions on two Chinese financial institutions, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced on Friday.
The move was in accordance with China's Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law and related implementation regulations.
Previously,
in August 2025, the MOFCOM imposed countermeasures against the two EU financial institutions after the EU listed two Chinese financial institutions in its sanctions related to Russia, in a move that a Chinese expert said was a reciprocal countermeasure - a clear and well-grounded response to the EU's long-arm jurisdiction and unilateral sanctions.
