Not worth recycling

According to statistics, every 18 months roughly half of cellphone users in China will switch over to a new phone. However, out of around 1 billion idle mobile phones in China, only two percent of them have been recycled. The price of purchasing a new iphone is much higher than the average recycling price for an old one, so many people would rather keep it instead of selling it to an unknown buyer. Possible privacy and disclosure concerns are another reason behind the huge personal inventory of phones. Smartphones nowadays are more or less used as devices for storing personal information including photos, contacts and personal preferences. Shortage of reliable recycling organizations or platforms also hinders recycling. The rapid upgrading of smartphones has brought about high personal turnover of smartphones whenever new versions are released. To some degree, it reflects the phenomena of excessive consumption, especially among youngsters.
