A 5-year-old cancer patient and fan of Japanese superhero figure Ultraman is expected to have his dream realized after the boy's new year wish to meet Ultraman in real life becoming a trending topic on the Chinese internet.

An employee, surnamed Fan, from the PR department Shanghai Character License Administrative Co., Ultraman's general copyright agent on the mainland, told the Global Times on Thursday that the boy will finish his treatment soon before resting back at home. If his physical condition improves, the company will try its best to realize his dream.

"Given the boy's current condition and the COVID-19 epidemic resurgence in China, we have been in contact with the boy's father and will try our best to have his dream come true if conditions permit," Fan said.

While the company is mulling a visit to the boy, many everyday Ultramen have already taken action.

Over 80 Ultraman fans from across the country jointly made a video to grant their best wishes to the boy and encourage him, Red Star News reported.

In May 2019, the boy, named Mou Yi, from Dazhou city in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that develops from immature nerve cells, found in several areas of the body.

According to the boy's father, Mou Cong, his son has gone through more than a dozen chemotherapy sessions, over 20 radiation therapy sessions, a major tumor resection and two bone marrow transplants since he fell ill, Red Star News reported.

Although he previously made improvements, he suffered from a relapse in health last August.

In November 2020, the boy received treatment at the Shandong Cancer Hospital and made a list of "50 wishes" including the most wanted and most difficult-to-achieve wish of seeing Ultraman in person.

In order to realize his son's dream, the father, a retired veteran who transported relief supplies during the 2008 earthquake in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, asked for help on the internet.

The boy's wish drew wide attention from people from all walks of life and across the country immediately as well as from Shanghai Character License Administrative Co.

Like the superheroes on Japanese TV who always defeat monsters and bring light to mankind, China's Ultramen are bringing light to the boy's life and are encouraging him to defeat the disease.
