A tenant in Xiamen, East China's Fujian Province, accidentally found 60 kilograms of drugs hidden in the ceiling when he was changing light bulbs. The find led to the exposure of a drug smuggling case that happened 12 years ago, reported KNews on Sunday.

The tenant found a large number of white crystals in the ceiling of the kitchen and immediately reported to the police back in January. Upon close inspection, the white crystals were found to be high purity ketamine.

The police investigation traced it back to a suspicious tenant 12 years prior, surnamed Li, who was arrested in South China's Guangdong Province in 2009 for drug smuggling and sentenced to life in prison.

The newly discovered drugs were the ones that hadn't been smuggled out and left in his old rental room. Li is still waiting for a retrial.
