Bing Dwen Dwen, the popular mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, has attracted the world's attention. However, such popular products can always become the target of criminals. Recently, an organized group of criminals was caught after deceiving more than 3.5 million technical college students to participate in an online questionnaire that the criminals used to illegally collect their personal data and information.
The criminal group said that taking the questionnaire will help the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the students can get a Bing Dwen Dwen as a reward and honorary certificates with academic bonus points.
The criminals designed certain rules and posters to mix the spurious with the genuine to confuse their targets. Participants were required to fill in the school, name, ID number and mobile phone number. There were 10 questions with a corresponding to be answered within 10 minutes after the registration. As a reward, some were crowned "Winter Olympic Ambassadors" and others won prizes.
On February 16, police arrested all 19 people involved in the case.
